Marsh
Creek Highlands
Harris & Donna Viker
Roseville, MN & Mahnomen, MN
Marsh
Creek Highlands started as a hobby in 1988 with the purchase of several cows and
a herd bull. We added other bloodlines and our herd grew to about 50-60 head by
2000 but have since cut back on herd size.
We kept our favorites which hopefully are also our best Highlands.
About 7-8 calves are produced each year usually starting in early April.
Several of these are halter broken and groomed for our NCHCA Fall Show in
September.
We live in a suburb of the Twin Cities but are active in our farm that is
located in the northwest part of MN.
A part time farm employee looks after our Highlands but we spend a lot of
time, especially in the summer, at the farm working with our cattle.
Visit our web site at www.marshcreekhighlands.com
and learn more about our farm and our animals or e-mail us at donna@marshcreekhighlands.com.
For the Vikers, raising Highlands is a family affair.
Here Harris and Donna are shown with granddaughters Katie & Hannah.
They want me to be a Disney reindeer for Christmas!!! Hanna showing her
beautiful "reindeer" highland.
Here is our Katie showing off her beautiful girl for you

Northern Divide Highlands is our hobby farm located 70 miles south of the Canadian border in Blackduck,
MN. Owned and operated by Larry and Vicki Brittain, we
became involved with these hairy, long horned animals after attending the
National Western Stock Show with Zealand Farms in 1997. We currently have
9 mature cows and our bull in a variety of colors including one of pure Scottish
pedigree. We also do some Artificial Insemination work with our cows, for
a variety of calves. We can normally be found attending both of the NCHCA
shows in the fall and the NWSS in January. All
visitors are welcome! Please e-mail us at vickib@blackduck.net

Schön Boden Farms, owned by Roger and Cindy Weideman,
are located in the gently rolling hills of the St. Croix river valley in west
central Wisconsin, about 40 miles from Minneapolis-St. Paul. We have been
raising Highland Cattle here for about 20 years and currently have about 70
animals. We raise all our own feed including hay and grain so we know exactly
what goes into our herd. We sell quality breeding stock and naturally raised
beef, plus we also market corn, soy beans, and oats. Our children, Jessica and
Ryan are also involved in the farming operation and in the Junior Highland
Association. You may e-mail us at rweidema@centurytel.net
enjoying some 'down time' at the fair.
Aren't Highlands majestic?

North Star Highlands began in 1998 and is located on a picturesque 45-acre
farm twelve miles north of Park Rapids. From the initial 2 cows and a
bull, the herd has expanded and usually numbers between 18 and 28. Norm
and Mary are retired teachers who enjoy feeding "treats' daily to their hungry
friends. The cattle have become the neighborhood petting zoo and a must
see for area visitors. We sell beef by the quarter or half. Breeding
stock is available for sale, and farm visitors are always welcome. Please
e-mail us at nleistik@unitelc.com
The calves say, "Hey Marty, it's feeding time!"
Treats, please. We're starving!

Bullthistle Farm
Charles & Karen Kerr
Watertown, WI
The idea for Bullthistle Farm began in 1989 when we
bought a parcel of run-down land along the Rock River. It was green and lovely
and just aching to be home to four-legged again. We weren't actually interested in farming at the time, but the idea kept simmering until we began looking at
animals, and found that the common breeds of our area were of no interest to us.
Eventually we found the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy and settled on two
breeds of rare sheep and our fold of Highland Cattle. It's been an on-going love
affair since then. To contact Bullthistle e-mail them here.
I so don't have time for this today!! ~
NO!! I don't think it's about time for a haircut mom!

We
Tired Acres is located about 10 miles south of Tomah, WI (where the “I”
divides) in the hills. We purchased our first Highlands in February 2003. Since then
our herd has grown to approximately 25 head.
We have 5-10 calves a year. We
have introduced Highlands to several new breeders in the few years we have been
here. Each time we sell we sponsor
a membership in the American Highland Cattle Association along with the
Highland. 2005 was the first year
we showed and were very successful with the bull we showed being Reserve
Champion and Champion at the shows where we exhibited.
We strive to improve on the cattle we originally purchased by introducing
new genetics periodically. We
usually have some breeding stock available and encourage visitors in the area to
contact us at 608-435-6405 or kenrose@rosesarabians.com
and stop by to see us and our Highlands. Or, for a virtual tour go to www.wetiredacres.com

Almosta Farm
Steve & Sue Dyke
Magnet, Nebraska
Almosta Farm is on 16 acres located in the small town of Magnet in northeast
Nebraska. Having been away from the cattle end of things for a long time,
we looked for a breed that would work on our small acreage and the Highlands
have been a perfect fit. We bought our first heifer in 2002 and currently have
6 cows and our bull. We also use Artificial Insemination to get different
genetics introduced into the herd. We offer quality breeding stock that
are given lots of TLC and are all halter trained. We love to show off the
'kids' a the local county far and attend quite a few highland shows through the
year. We can be reached at 402-586-2631 or e-mail us at almostafarm@gpcom.net.
This Nebraska grass tastes great! ~
Hey mom, I thought you said hay tasted good!?!
