Mid-Lakes Highlands is hosting the 2024 North Central Highland Cattle Association Summer Picnic on Sunday, July 14th at 12:00 noon.
The farm will provide meat and salads as well as beverages. Dishes to pass are welcome. After lunch we will have a presentation by Steve Wagemester of Ag-Consulting & Products LLC, Viroqua Wisconsin. Steve is a nutritionist who helps us bring our highland show cattle to their fullest potential. Steve will talk about what it takes to feed a show heifer or bull from birth to the showring. We will provide a tour of our new show barn, talk about why we built the barn the way that we did, what we would change and our daily routine with the show cattle. Mid-Lakes Highlands was started in 2020 when we purchased 3 heifers from Ledyard Farms in New York. Because there were not any shows in the east in 2020 Mid-Lakes Highlands made the first treck to shows in the mid-west attending the NCHCA show and World Beef Expo. We thought our heifers were pretty good but their show ring results that year far exceeded our expectations culminating with Grand Champion Heifer at the Southeast Highland Show. Since that time Mid-Lakes Highlands averages 8 shows per year traveling from Wisconsin to New York and Denver and places in between.
