WPT Maple (AI,D)
Pedigree # 64,757 DOB: 03/09/2022 WPT Maple is a deep, clean fronted heifer, with good feet. She is sired by Dirigo Florent, a bull used extensively by Thorbardin and sired by the famous Scottish bull, Ben Eniglair of Scone Palace. Maple’s dam, LEA Maggie is a robust, powerful cow who is a product of outstanding LEA breeding as both her dam, LEA Corrie, and grandam, LEA Kittery, are elite impact dams, and her sire is the influential, LEA Haaken. As a young calf Maple damaged the tip of one horn which has had some effect on the uniformity of her horns. bull calves for sale:
We have too much testosterone on the farm. We have 3 young boys available. All were initially intended to be castrated but as life happens, they have yet to be banded or castrated.
Kenny (red, 6/6/23): SM Epic’s Honey Bee (60,721) x DH Premier (56,240). Excellent structure, very suitable as potential herd sire. Unable to be AHCA registered because I told original breeder I planned to castrate him. Is gradually getting comfortable with brushing. Waylon (black, 6/10/23): RW Buttercup (52,740) x CGH Thor 19 (60,110). Good structure. Dam is short and wide 11 year old, herd matriarch. Very comfortable with human interaction. Willie (dun, 6/11/23): Snowland Hilja (59,939) x CGH Thor 19 (60,110). Steer or pet quality. Very social. Typically the instigator of wrestling matches. QSH Amina (65,963, DOB: 07/25/2022) is approaching 2 years old but has remained rather petite. She is product of Snowland Hilja (65,963) x CGH Thor 19 (60,110). Size wise, she will not be ready to breed at two for a first calf at three. She is also half sibling to our future herd sire so we have decided to part with her. It would be essential that any future breeding be to a confirmed low birth weight bull. She is quiet and social.

SFF Merlin the Magician (PV, D) (59,166) came to Iowa from Vermont in the spring of 2023 as a cooperative co-ownership between Quarter Section Run and Mud Ridge Ranch (Red Oak, Iowa) to bring new and excellent genetics to the midwest. He sports family members from notable farms such as Star Lake, Trafalgar, EZ Acres, and Australian farms of Bairnsley and Cruachan. He came to us halter trained and very motivated to do his work.
I've learned bigger isn't always better and the camera can skew my size estimates. Merlin is a BIG boy and unfortunately not all of my ladies will easily stand for him. With a small fold, it is essential that our females breed back efficiently so we have decided to offer Merlin to a fold with larger framed females. He has been a relatively easy keeper minus the fence that was in his way when a female was in heat on the other side. He respects a hot line and pouts if he's swatted on the nose when getting a little too eager for treats. It's always essential to respect all cattle, particularly bulls; however, I have not had any concerns with his temperament. CSF Moonbeam (#58763) is looking for a new home!
We hate to see this pretty lady leave our farm but as we continue to grow, we need cows that are as low maintenance as possible. Moonbeam was born 6/23/2018 and her pedigree contains genetics from LEA, We Tired, Gray Owl, CSF, and DH. She likes to be brushed (on her terms) and is approachable/workable, but is not what I’d consider a ‘super friendly’ cow. Moonbeam has never had any issues with calving and has given us m/f twins, a heifer calf, and a bull calf since owning her. The only reason we are selling her is due to the fact that she has high anxiety when she calves and tries to get her calf to stand immediately after being born and she can end up injuring her calf in the process. She is a fantastic mother after the first couple days after calving. The initial few days she tends to be a little rough on her calf. |
We do own Moonbeam’s mother (Gray Owl’s Matilda), who is our most friendly cow and is also an impact dam. All of Moonbeam’s calves have been extremely friendly. She currently has a Dun bull calf at her side and he will not be selling with her. She is not currently bred back as we are moving all our girls back to a spring calving schedule, but we are willing to expose her earlier (prior to June) to our white AHCA registered bull if the buyer is interested.
I would say that Moonbeam wouldn’t be for beginners and we will be somewhat particular on who she sells to.
Please contact JeNeal Horning via text/phone call or email if you have any interest in CSF Moonbeam.
Thank you!
