featured speaker - jared lurman

Jared farms on his family's farm in Goodhue, MN along with his wife Valerie and dad Jon. They raise registered Red Angus cattle and breed livestock that are bred to thrive in their environment without the use of expensive inputs. Jared and Valerie own and operate Grass Fed Cattle Company, a direct to consumer brand marketing grass fed beef, pastured pork and pastured poultry from their farm as well as other local farmers to customers in and around the Twin Cities. Their goals are to manage their farm in a way that improves the land under their stewardship, the profitability of their business, and the lifestyle that they enjoy. You can learn more about what they do on Jared's Herd Quitter Podcast where he talks to farmers and ranchers across the US who aren't afraid to do things differently and have found success in their businesses through this.

Listen to Jared's presentation focused on looking at farm profitability from a different point of view.

The NCHCA board honored Maureen Matt for her work in support of the Association.  Maureen joined the board in 2022 and has served on multiple committees, working tirelessly on behalf of the Association. Congratulations, Maureen and thank you for all you have done for NCHCA!

After a great banquet, an auction to support the junior program was held and a good time was had by all.

Thanks to all who contributed items and bid. Juniors raised $2,430 through your generosity.

sunday morning clipping clinic

A special feature of this year's meeting was a clipping clinic. Lauren Cowell of Beyond Hope Farm demonstrated different fitting styles, from minimal clipping to a more fully fitted style.

Lauren stressed that these techniques are not useful only for showing, but can also help breeders present their animals in photos.

Novices and experienced members alike learned from Lauren's presentation.

We are very grateful to Lauren for sharing her expertise.

Thanks to all members who were able to make the meeting and a special welcome to the many new faces who came to the session. See you all next year!

Special thanks go to Katie & Kyle Baker and the Annual Meeting Committee, Michelle and Tony Letourneau, Sharon Lewis and Bruce Schmitz, for the great job planning and organizing the event.
