The NCHCA Junior board is pleased to offer 1 (one)  $500 scholarship to a current NCHCA junior member, to be used for college or trade school expenses {Tuition, Books, Etc.}. 

Limit of one award per junior

The applying junior must be a current graduating senior or accepted to a college or trade school for the current year. The student need not be studying an agriculturally based field to apply. Deadline is January 1st.

​The Junior of the Year program recognizes one junior each year who has excelled at participating not only in the association, but also at school and in his/her community. This annual award was created and sponsored by Sue Dyke in honor of her grandmother.

The junior must be a member in good standing of the NCHCA juniors. They must be younger than 21 years of age and have not received the award in a previous year.

The Junior of the Year award is given out in the fall at the NCHCA Show in Austin, Minnesota.  The winner receives a HUGE traveling trophy that gets passed on to the next winning junior the following year.  The winner also receives a specially designed trophy size belt buckle to keep and bragging rights throughout the year.

Any NCHCA member can submit a nomination.
Please consider nominating an outstanding junior in our organization!

  4. Two letters of recommendation emailed directly from reference to  brodericktr@gmail.com. Emails must be received by January 31, 2022. We recommend one from an unrelated teacher or employer and a second character reference from an unrelated acquaintance. 

The recipient will be chosen by the NCHCA board without name or identifying information.

The board will consider the following when choosing the recipient:
  1. Long term goals
  2. Leadership
  3. Academic Excellence
  4. Extracurricular Activities
  5. Commitment to and Participation in NCHCA Junior Program and Association
  6. Review of Application by the Board Members

NCHCA Education Hour - january 8th


​We invite you to join us via Zoom for an educational session on January 8 at 7:00 pm.  Anne Proctor, Ph.D., is a ruminant nutritionist working for a feed company as well as a Highland breeder.  Join her to learn the basics about how the digestive system of a cow works and what we need to know to make sure our feeding strategy meets the needs of our cows.  Bring your questions - we will allow plenty of time for discussion.  Use the link below to register for the meeting.

All members are welcome to come together for this annual event. The annual business meeting includes election of officers and directors. Meet with other Highland breeders and learn from educational sessions. Juniors will have great activities. There will be a banquet on Saturday followed by an auction to raise funds for the Juniors.

2016 Highland Bull: FTA Kansas

​Dun bull sired by Skye High Wayward Son 2011 NWSS Grand Champion Highland Bull. His dam is FTA Victoria's Secret of our Four T Acres breeding, going back to Scott of Craycombe. Handled but not halter trained, this stout guy has excellent feet and legs, a long straight top line, wide stance and a good disposition. Kansas has been vaccinated, his breeding soundness exam done, and he is ready to go to work. If you are interested, you can even stop by to see both his dam, sire, and other progeny out of this excellent pairing of animals.
